AB - ALMUT-BARBARA RENGER Zum Leben und Wirken des Chan-Meisters Jinghui (1933-2013) in der Volksrepublik China In the course of the rise of religions in the People’s Republic of China, Chan Buddhism, as promoted by the monk Jing Hui (1933-2013) since the 1980s, evolved into a world-oriented Buddhism which was presented as following party and state policy guidance. The present paper examines this recent development. First, it sketches intra- and interreligious rela- tions and figurations of the religious field from which Jing Hui emerged as a religious specialist, and that he himself formed and shaped. Then, it is broadly outlined how he used the scope of action created through these structures and how, by virtue of the content of his teachings and certain strategies of legitimation, he contributed to the revitalization of Buddhism in contemporary China, actively taking political conditions into account. Zu den vielfältigen Wandlungsprozessen, welche die Volksrepublik China, offiziell ein säkularer Staat, seit einigen Jahrzehnten durchläuft, gehört die neu erstarkte Bedeutung von Religion. Unter anderem vor dem Hintergrund, dass in Chinas Geschichte immer wieder Aufstands- bewegungen von religiösen Gemeinschaften ausgegangen waren und heftige Turbulenzen verursacht hatten, kam es während der von Mao Zedong ausgelösten Kulturrevolution (1966 bis 1976) zu
