TY - JOUR AU - Humphries, C.J. AB - Mittermeier , R.A. , Myers , N. , Mittermeier , C.G. ( 2000 ) Hotspots: earth’s biologically richest and most endangered terrestrial ecoregions . Distributed for CEMEX/Conservation International by The University of Chicago Press , Chicago . 431 pp, colour photographs, maps. Hardback: Price US$65.00, £45.50 . ISBN 9 68639 758 2 . At first sight this beautiful book looks to be a marvellous addition to the biodiversity literature. It is written by 72 authors and is embellished throughout with 358 glossy photographs, many of them with double‐page landscape portraits showing everything from forest destruction in Colombia to stunning pictures of the bontebok ( Damaliscus dorcas dorcas ) at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains in South Africa. Measuring 36 × 30 × 4 cm and weighing in at just under 4.2 kg, it is so conspicuous that it could easily be mistaken for the table top itself requiring only a leg at each corner to make a substantial piece of furniture. Hotspots is the second book published by Agrupación Sierra Madre and Conservation International with support from the third largest cement company in the World, CEMEX. It continues on a theme established by the Mittermeier husband‐and‐wife team TI - Hotspots: Going off the Boil?
