TY - JOUR AB - This volume consists of a transcription of lectures which constituted a postgraduate course in clinical endocrinology at the University of California Medical School. Some 30 lecturers contributed. In their preface, the editors state that: "This book is not intended for the medical student, nor for the research investigator, nor for the clinical endocrinologist who would find little in these pages with which he was not already familiar." Perusal of the book confirms this statement, and it is the opinion of this reviewer that any clinician not familiar with this material could more profitably seek it elsewhere. Because so many conditions have been considered, each chapter tends to be short and superficial. The physiology and mechanisms of action of the various hormones are merely touched on. Controversial subjects are resolved by the personal opinion of each author, frequently with only a hint that there may be other points of view.
