TY - JOUR AU - Yatskiv, A. AB - EXCHANGE OF EXPERIENCE APPARATUS FOR DETERMINING THE GEOMETRIC SIZE OF EXTERNAL PATHOLOGICAL FORMATIONS L. I. Trushkevich and A. I. Yatskiv UDC 615.471:616-071.3-71 Visual methods currently used to measure the size of benign tumors and malignant forma- tions on the lower lip, tongue, and mucous membrane of the mounth are inexact, inconvenient, and unhygienic. Measurements of the area of pathological foci are never undertaken. The method of stomatoscopy can be used to determine background changes and the precise limits of a neoplasm undetectable by visual examination. The essence of the method is the intravital investigation of tissues by means of an instrument enabling inspection to be made with a maximal magnification of 25 times. The KS-I colposcope, manufactured by the Leningrad "Krasnogvardeets" Production Combine, was used as the basic instrument for stomatoscopic examination of the patient, To measure the linear dimensions and area of neoplasms, an additional interchangeable plane-parallel glass plate, worked to class I of purity, was mounted in the right ocular of the instrument, The plate, 18 mm in diameter, turned in a threaded metal support. A measuring grid with squares measuring i × i mm was etched with hydrofluoric acid on the surface of the plate.
