TY - JOUR AU - Shen, Lizhong AB - The dynamic characteristics of the cylinder block directly influence the vibration and noise of the internal combustion engine (ICE). Modal analysis of the cylinder block is very helpful for its system identification and performance improvement. This paper refers to a basic study on the experimental and analytical methods for the reduction of resonant vibration in each vibration mode on three cylinder ICE, in the rated engine speed range. In order that the simulation embodies the block dynamic character accurately, a finite element (FE) model of a three cylinder ICE was built in I-DEAS environment and FE modal analysis was carried out numerically. Then experimental modal analysis was performed by the hammering method and the modal parameters (natural frequencies, mode shapes and mode damping factors) were obtained. The tested results were compared with those obtained from FE analysis. The result verifies the FE model. Based on the analysis, reasonable measures of reducing vibration and noise are brought forward.
