TY - JOUR AU1 - Farber, Paul AB - Journal of the History of Biology (2007) 40:387  Springer 2007 DOI 10.1007/s10739-007-9133-9 This issue of the Journal of the History of Biology contains a ‘‘Special Section on Women in Genetics’’ and a new section, ‘‘Essays and Doc- uments.’’ The ‘‘Special Section on Women in Genetics,’’ has its origins in a set of papers delivered at the Vienna meeting of the International Society for the History, Philosophy and Social Studies of Biology (ISHPSSB) held in Vienna during the summer of 2003. Gar Allen at- tended the session, and as he has done on other occasions, encouraged the authors (Ida Stamhuis, Arve Monsen, Marsha Richmond, and Michael Dietrich) to consider submitting papers for this journal which they subsequently did. After we received the set, Marilyn Ogilvie sub- mitted a paper on the geneticist Helen Dean King, and after consulta- tion with the authors of the ISH set, we decided that the four papers would constitute an interesting and related group. The ‘‘Women in Genetics’’ papers explore a number of interesting topics raised by looking at the women who took part in the early history of genetics.
