Free to access URI https://library.oapen.org/handle/20.500.12657/51645 This book is a timely assessment of the European Union’s (EU) activities in the field of pri- vate international family law. The contributions are drawn from the findings of the empirical EUFams II project which surveyed legal practitioners, judges, and academics across the Member States on their knowledge of the European legal framework relating to cross-border family disputes. The questionnaire sought to explore the implementation of the legal frame- work across Europe, the consistency of approach to and interpretation of the complex legal structures, and challenges in cross-border cooperation. It is a timely assessment since the main Brussels IIa Regulation covering jurisdiction over divorce, child abduction, and cross- border matters relating to children was under revision and has now been replaced by Brussels IIter, but the survey and this book cover a broader range of family law issues includ- ing succession and personal status issues.
