TY - JOUR AB - Hot electrons can be used to obtain transistor action in a semiconductor in a new type of transistor developed by scientists at Philips Research Laboratories (PRL) in Redhill. Because hot electrons have higher velocities than the average electron in the semiconductor (see Physics Bulletin June 1985 p242), this new transistor structure can provide amplification and power at very much higher frequencies than can the FET or bipolar transistor.
