TY - JOUR AU - Sato,, S. AB - Abstract Localization of glutamate-oxaloacetate transaminase, glutamate-pyruvate transaminase, glutamine synthetase, and glutamate synthase in cultured cells (XD-6) of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L. cv. Xanthi) was studied. While glutamate-oxaloacetate transaminase, glutamate-pyruvate transaminase, and glutasmine synthetase were found both in and outside of the proplastids, glutamate synthase was found only in the proplastids, indicating that the glutamine synthetase/glutamate synthase pathway is localized in the proplastids. It was concluded that the primary reactions in the pathway for the formation of organic nitrogen compounds took place in the proplastids of tobacco cells cultured in vitro.
