TY - JOUR AU - John, J E A AB - A collection device was constructed to isolate and capture a sample of a dense liquid spray consisting of particles with initial velocities of up to approximately 300 m s-1. The device includes a shutter, and sample size is controlled by the shutter speed and the width of an aperture in the shutter. As the shutter makes its single pass beneath the spray, spray particles are exposed to microscopic slides for collection and subsequent sizing. Soot-coated microscope slides were used for water sprays and bare slides for paint sprays.
