TY - JOUR AU - Parks, Robert E. AB - There are two classes of optical manufacturing methods: (1) the traditional grind and polish method that leads to an original optical element and (2) replication techniques that yield identical copies of a master. The various process steps in the two approaches are described to illustrate the fundamental differences in the methods. An understanding of these processes often is helpful for selecting the most appropriate manufacturing method.
