TY - JOUR AB - Journal of International Economic Law (2003) 12 Oxford University Press Volume 6, issue 1 of the Journal of International Economic Law (JIEL) is launching its sixth year of publication. Our objective continues to aim at providing a diverse selection of international economic law subjects, focusing attention on topics of current discussion and debate. As usual, an essay on the `State of International Economic Law' opens the first issue of every volume. This year, the eminent scholar and JIEL Editorial Board Member, Professor Joel Trachtman, will author the opening essay. The subsequent Parts of this issue consider challenging subjects arising in the WTO Doha Round Negotiations which urge the reflection and discussion of several themes. Among them, the negotiations on the Understanding on Rules and Procedures Governing the Settlement of Disputes are targeted to be finished in time for the Cancun Ministerial Conference. This issue attempts to tackle some of the main aspects under these negotiations, such as the review of trade remedies and the proposal of the creation of permanent first-level panels. One of the main subjects debated in 2002 was related to the review powers of the WTO Dispute Settlement Body.
