Th e book shows that the wave of codifications has not been blocked by modern American approaches which stress the need for depeqage. On the other hand, the EEC Convention on the Law Ap plicable to Contractual Relations, with its more flexible rules and escape clauses, reflects American theory. In this respect, th e Italian codification, taking advantage of the experiences in other civil law countries, seems to be among the most elaborate codifications of conflicts law in Europe. The question remains when the reform will become the law in Italy. SOCIALIST LAW YEARBOOK ON SOCIALIST LEGAL STUDIES. Edited by W.E. Butler. Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.: Transnational Publishers, Inc., 1986.
