TY - JOUR AU - Hovde, S. J. AB - We apply a measure from fractal geometry to time series of airborne observations of ozone and meteorological quantities in the lower stratosphere. The Hurst exponent measure demonstrates that the lower stratospheric ozone, wind and temperature obey single exponent power law scaling to a high degree of fidelity. As a result, we suggest that ozone and horizontal windspeed behave as random, self‐affine fractals, that vertical wind speed behaves antipersistently and that horizontal wind direction and temperature behave persistently. The persistent variables are candidates for multifractality.
