Nengye Liu doi:10.1093/yiel/yvt009 (1) International Issues (A) International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL Convention) The Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) held its sixty-third session from 27 February to 2 March. MEPC-63 adopted four sets of guidelines to assist in the implementation of the mandatory regulations on energy efficiency for ships in Annex VI of the MARPOL Convention, which are expected to enter into force on 1 January 2013. These guidelines are: Resolution MEPC. 212 (63) on the 2012 Guidelines on the Method of Calculation of the Attained Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) for New Ships; Resolution MEPC. 213 (63) on the 2012 Guidelines for the Development of a Ship Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP); Resolution MEPC. 214 (63) on the 2012 Guidelines on Survey and Certification of the EEDI; and Resolution MEPC. 215 (63) on the Guidelines for Calculation of Reference Lines for Use with the EEDI. The goal of these guidelines is to support member states in their uniform imple- mentation of the amendments to the Annex TI - B.
