Armstrong AB - ALLAGHER PROCEDURE Except for the following structural and electrical details, the apparatus was identical with that of Gallagher and Grimwood (I). Electrical contact to the carbon button microphone (Type T-3&, USAF throat microphone) was made through spring connectors, thus eliminating one potentially variable contact. The beam was provided with ball bearings, and the tail holder contacts were tapered to fit the contours of the tail. This additional machining resulted in a 4070 decrease in replicate standard deviation. The blood pressure cuff was made from glass tubing and rubber stoppers and was provided with a finger cot diaphragm. All measurements were made in a 25 + IOC room on 300-350 gm male white rats (Rolfsmeyer Co,, Madison, Wis.) lightly anesthetized with ether. Without preliminary heating, the tail was inserted into the cuff. The galvanometer was adjusted to read O-IO% of a full scale deflection. The beam was lowered so that one end was supported on the tail and the other rested on the microphone. By turning the thumb screw, the tension on the microphone was increased until the galvanometer reading reached a point (30-50~~ of full scale) at which a small adjustment resulted in a very large deflection (off TI - Indirect Determination of Systolic and Diastolic Pressures in the Rat JF - Journal of Applied Physiology DA - 1956-05-01 UR - https://www.deepdyve.com/lp/the-american-physiological-society/indirect-determination-of-systolic-and-diastolic-pressures-in-the-rat-srlk5RltsT VL - 8 IS - DP - DeepDyve ER -
