AB - Aromatic acylsilanes such as benzoyltrimethylsilane react with ytterbium metal to give symmetrical 1,2-diarylacetylenes in good yields. Aliphatic acylsilanes are reduced with lanthanoid reagents such as Yb metal and SmI2 to afford α-silylalcohols.
