TY - JOUR AU1 - McCulloug, Alan AB - M + C feature on Energy Management & Control Systems by Dr Alan McCullough · Feature Editor Projects manager for advanced computing and control technology projects ETSU, Harwell, Didcot, Oxfordshire. About 18 months ago, I decided to commission a market research study to assess the nature and size of the industrial market for advanced energy management and control software over the next five years or so. This study discovered that about 29% of managers and engineers were interested in some of the advanced computing and control techniques outlined, while a further 40% showed some interest in receiving some more details. Other statistics from this market study provided an interesting insight into the state of existing energy management and control systems within the process industIies. For example, • Around 15% of industrial sites admitted that they didn't analyse their energy data at all. • Only 75% of sites analyse energy data for the purpose of energy management. • About 49% of sites entered their energy data manually into a PC based spreadsheet. • Only 60% of sites were collecting data on the parameters that influence energy use. Perhaps the two main implications of these statistics are that many industrial managers TI - Introduction JF - Measurement and Control DO - 10.1177/002029409602900501 DA - 1996-06-01 UR - https://www.deepdyve.com/lp/sage/introduction-pE2kru0vxv SP - 133 EP - 133 VL - 29 IS - 5 DP - DeepDyve ER -
