AB - This paper describes the design of a microcontroller-based passive standby Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), where the student applies a top-down systems approach to produce a working system. Such a project involves hardware-software co-design for realizing the relatively large number of detection, protection and control functions within the UPS.
