TY - JOUR AU1 - Furukawa, Akira AB - Mono-dispersed stable polymer particles of styrene-acrylic copolymer were prepared in a hydrocarbon medium. Those particles were stabilized through acid-base interactions between polymer particles and polymeric stabilizer. Poly(dodecyl methacrylatemethacrylic acid) copolymer was used as stabilizer for the particle formation. In order to interact with acid groups in the stabilizer, basic monomer, DMAEMA (N,N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) was also copolymerized in the particle polymer. The size of polymer particle was controllable through appropriate choices of concentrations of both stabilizer and DMAEMA. Adsorption behavior of charge control agent on those polymer particles were quite dependent on the chemical nature of surface structure. "Core-shell" type polymer particles were quite effective to enhance the adsorption of charge control agent and thus to increase charge to mass ratio of the particles. Mechanism of particle charging was also discussed.
