TY - JOUR AU - Leigh, H. AB - An apparatus for the coulometric determination of carbon in steel with a precision approaching 1 part in 1000 at the 1 per cent. level has been constructed. The measures needed to overcome sources of error in gas absorption, pH measurement, control and coulometric measurement are described. The design avoids the use of a gas proportionating pump and can be used with a 0ยท2-g sample containing up to 2 per cent. of carbon, and proportionately larger amounts up to 2 g for lower carbon contents. Results on a series of standard steels are given.
