Akchurin Service experience with drill bits and a number of studies [1, 2] have shown that bits fail because of premature wear of the bearings of the legs and cones when the overall condition of the bit is still re- latively good. Rapid wear of the bit bearings is caused by high dynamic loads and eyclie contact pressures along with the action of surface-active media. The action of surface-active media is reinforced in pro- portion to increases in the amounts of clay mud, cuttings, and rolling-element wear products that are pre- sent in the media. The reliability and life of bit bearings can be increased substantially by increasing the amount of contact surface between the rolling elements and their bearings and at the same time retaining optimum axial and radial clearances in the thrust bearings of the bit. But this requires an improvement in the geometrical and dimensional precision and the surface finish of the bearing surfaces of the legs and cones of the TI - Test results on drill bits with bearings of improved dimensional accuracy and surface finish JF - Chemical and Petroleum Engineering DO - 10.1007/BF01139825 DA - 2005-01-27 UR - https://www.deepdyve.com/lp/springer-journals/test-results-on-drill-bits-with-bearings-of-improved-dimensional-ntS08o0NNl SP - 66 EP - 67 VL - 7 IS - 1 DP - DeepDyve ER -
