TY - JOUR AB - This book presents a brief classification, the clinical features, and the treatment of the more common fractures. Discussion of fractures of the skull and facial bones is purposely omitted. The line drawings and x-ray illustrations are excellent. The discussion is necessarily limited. The recommended treatment is usually conservative. Certain recommended practices differ from the usual practice in orthopedic centers in the United States. On page 80, the excision of an avulsed fragment of a transverse vertebral process fracture is recommended. Such an operation, as primary treatment, is unusual and not often necessary. The discussion of fractures of the hip is excellent. With regard to fractures of the femoral shaft, traction and manipulation are recommended as routine procedures. The use of intramedullary nail fixation is mentioned for pathological fractures and for occasional use in cases of uncomplicated closed fractures.
