AB - The theory of a finite continuous system representing the limiting case of a springdashpot ladder network is developed. The partial differential equation which describes this system has the form of the diffusion equation. A complete mathematical treatment is given. The result is shown to be practically identical with that of Rouse's theory. Formally it represents an extension of Blizard's treatment.
