TY - JOUR AU1 - Hoffstadter, Lynn, K. AB - Abstract Blood banking involves many sophisticated analyses that, without automation and computerization, can be performed only by highly skilled persons. The human ability to “look for things” is more flexible than the computer’s, but the ability to flexibly and intelligently search for and analyze information starts to break down as the quantity of information becomes larger. Computers, however, can handle vast amounts of information without suffering any deleterious effects.
