TY - JOUR AU - Miki, Tetsuro AB - Blood pressure variability has been demonstrated to be an independent risk factor of cardiovascular events. Genetic involvement in blood pressure variability over years was investigated in 120 community-dwelling healthy subjects age≥65 in Japan. Blood pressure measurements were performed every year as annual medical checkup. Elderly subjects who had more than three records of blood pressure measurements were enrolled. Coefficient of variance (CV) of systolic blood pressure (SBP) was obtained as an index of blood pressure variability. All the participants were free from any medication. Gene polymorphisms of the renin-angiotensin system were determined for each subject with ACE I/D, Angiotensinogen (AGT) M235T, and Angiotensin type 1 receptor (AT1R) A1166C genotypes. ApoE genotype was also determined for each subject. Blood pressure variabilities were significantly different among ACE I/D gene polymorphims and ApoE genotypes. These findings indicate that genetic predisposition could be involved in blood pressure variability in the elderly subjects.
