TY - JOUR AB - 1'a.rt of a caecum with a vermiform appendix divided by longitudinal sect ion. The appcndix is greatly enlarged by inflammation, and forms a curved, cylindrical mass 33 in. by 14 in. It is covered by smooth, congested peri- toneum, beneath which is a thick layer of tibrous tissue. The lumen of the appendix is visiblc in the upper part of this mass and appears again in transverse scction near the apex. The mucous membrane is thickened both in the cmmm and in the appendix. In thc fatty tissue besidc thc caxuni arc scvcral slightly swollen lymph-glands. IIunterinn Museum R.C.S., 0895.2 MICROSCOPIC STRUCTuRE.-The mucous membrane is thickened by a leucocytic exudate and its lymph-follicles are increased in size. The dense tissue round the appendix consists o€ liyaline fibrous tissiic in which arc numerous small foci of leucocytes. CLINICAL HisToizY.-The patient was a girl, aged 16. Two months before operation she complained of pain in the lower abdomen. This gradually increased and three weeks after the onset was accompanied by a rise of temperature. There was no vomiting. On examination a tender mass was felt in the right iliac fossa.
