AB - Utilizing new data and a new theory appearing in recent books, the Editor of the Quarterly makes a cross-country comparison of four variables in 85 national press systems. The results indicate that socioeconomic and cultural factors are closely related to the degrees of freedom reported by IPI and IAPA surveys.
