In working with the older statistical data it is not infrequently found that whereas the population is returned in the census enumera- tions in five year age-groups, the deaths for the corresponding years, as published in the Registrar General's annual reports, are partly in five and partly in ten year age-groups. Thus in Ireland in 1911 the census report provided the ages of the people in five year age-periods from 0 to 94 years of age, while the Registrar General's annual report for the same year gave the deaths in five year age-groups to age 25, and in ten year groups at ages greater than this. Again in England and Wales in 1901 the populations were available in five year periods, while the deaths from age 25 upwards were only to be obtained in decennial groups. In these circumstances it is usual, where the deaths from age 25 upwards are required, for statistical purposes, in quinquennial groups, to derive them from the decennial groups by dividing the latter in the proportion which obtained in the nearest year for which TI - A METHOD FOR SUBDIVIDING DECENNIAL AGE-GROUPS OF DEATHS JO - American Journal of Epidemiology DO - 10.1093/oxfordjournals.aje.a117805 DA - 1932-01-01 UR - https://www.deepdyve.com/lp/oxford-university-press/a-method-for-subdividing-decennial-age-groups-of-deaths-k00e9tkzy0 SP - 125 EP - 137 VL - 15 IS - 1 DP - DeepDyve ER -
