TY - JOUR AU1 - F. C. G. Southon AB - REFERENCE 1. McCullough EC: Potentials of computed tomography in radiation therapy treatment planning. Radiology 129:765-768, Dec 1978 I would like to support E. C. McCullough's position in maintaining the value of simple CT pictures expanded to life size for use in radiotherapy planning (1). I would like to add a caution, however, relating to the use of a photographic image derived from a TV monitor. We have found the spatial distortions of our standard video screens too great for radiotherapeutic use. As an alternative, we have generated an accurately life-sized gray scale printout from the printer-plotter which is standard on some scanners such as the ACTA 0200 FS. Although the image quality is not that of a photograph, the critical area can be easily identified in conjunction with the photograph. The printout can then be used directly in conventional planning procedures. The program which uses Fortran and PDP-11 Macro to generate the picture on an ACTA 0200 FS has been written locally. F. C.
