Urgent: Caesarean section which becomes necessary because of maternal or fetal compromise that is not deemed immediately life threatening (e.g. failure to progress, nonreassuring cardiotocograph trace). Emergency: Caesarean section which is immediately necessary because of maternal or fetal compromise that is considered life threatening to the mother and/or fetus (e.g. placental abruption, prolonged fetal bradycardia). In 1995 at Northwick Park Hospital there were 520 Caesarean section deliveries from a population of 3462 mothers, a rate of 15%. From Table 1 it is evident that 404 of these Caesarean sections (78%) were performed under regional anaesthesia and using the traditional classification already mentioned, this included 282 ‘emergencies’ (77% of all ‘emergencies’). This appears superficially reassuring, in keeping with the widely held view that avoidance of general anaesthesia is the most effective way to reduce TI - Mobile telephones and palmtop computers JO - Anaesthesia DO - 10.1111/j.1365-2044.1996.tb07901.x DA - 1996-08-01 UR - https://www.deepdyve.com/lp/wiley/mobile-telephones-and-palmtop-computers-irUp0DMGn3 SP - 792 VL - 51 IS - 8 DP - DeepDyve ER -
