Assembly stands with carriages are the most popular type. Figure 1 shows hand- and pneumatic-operated carriages for an assembly stand on which apparatuses with diameters of from 800 to 3000 mm canbe assembled. The spacing between the roller axles of the hand-operated carriages can vary from 300 to 1600 mm. The design of the carriages with pneumatically operated roller supports is more perfect that of the hand-operated carriages, because there the apparatus to be assembled rests upon four instead of on only two roller supports. For this reason, the load is A-A __, _--_--_ more evenly distributed and so the body of the ap- paratus to be assembled is less liable to be deformed. Besides, the apparatus to be assembled can be rotated conveniently with a pneumatic drive. A pneumatic drive also is less dangerous than an electric one be- \. ~ a l ll-"~ll\ cause the latter would require a flexible supply cable which would increase the hazard of injuries due to electric current.
