TY - JOUR AU1 - Ltd., Cambridge Instrument Co., AB - 192 NEW INSTRUMENTS AND TOOI,S it is stated, is achieved by making the magnetizing winding cover the complete length of the magnetic circuit, including the length of the movable yoke, and by constructing the winding in the form of numerous short coils which are connected, in parallel, through substantial bus-bars, to a low voltage supply. The arrangement of the apparatus is shown in the figure. The standard coils are permanently fixed and their tappings brought out to five of the switch dials shown; the sixth dial controls the galvanometer sensitivity. The winding is enclosed in bakelite tubes which protect it from damage. It is only necessary to lift the yoke to remove it to enable a coil to be placed over the core; clamping is unnecessary. The equipment described will deal with coils which are within the following limits: Coil length up to 5 in.; turns up to 10,000; and bore, large enough to pass over a core I in. square, The maximum error in the results given by this apparatus is given as - + 0.5 per cent. The price of the apparatus is E235.
