But the objectives of Tommaso Marani lay in another direction: “my contribution will analyze the description present in the Leiðarvísir of all sites of Christian Rome, in order to show how the Icelandic text is also based on the literary tradition of the Latin language” (91). This research is really adding some material to the debate of the source avail- able for the medieval author of the Leiðarvísir. For example the Icelandic text mentions five Episcopal seats in Rome, detail already present in the Ecclesiae patriarchales, a contemporary text, whereas the interpolation of the 14th century will add two more seats in Saint Croce of Jerusalem and San Sebastian (92). This detailed research leads him to establish a scope of the literature hagiographic and historic available in Iceland in the 12th century and mostly in the Benedictine world. Moreover, the Leiðarvísir gives good information on the reconstruction of a literary fantastic re-elaboration of an imagined Rome in the 12th century (106).
