This seems improbable both in view of the evidence produced above and because to treat the sentence in this waybreaks the obvious parallelism between the day and night duties of the Anubis-gods. No. 6 has beentranslated and commented upon by Daumas 1 who renders it: 'lorsqu'elle apporte le soir, on chante,on danse, on . . . . en elle chaque jour en sauvant son disque ( ?) jusqu'à ce que l'Or brille au petitmatin'. Apart from the fact that the meaning of smsr has been misunderstood, the translation ofthe critical signs yields no real sense and I see no alternative but to translate as I have done above.The immediate transliteration that leaps to the eye is r' nbkrnhm.fbut in the context thisyields no sense, though C.D. II, 167,4 shows that at least one scribe did interpret the second signasnb. At one time I was tempted to read : nbwy hr nhm. f but this is clearly untenable, forthe
