New York: Routledge, 2001. $85.00 cloth; $22.95 paper. Offering 17 new essays on the male body and its popular representations, Peter Lehman's collection contributes to an already thriving field which has seen important works by Kaja Silverman, Gaylyn Studlar, Richard Dyer, and a seminal anthology by Steven Cohan and Ina Rae Hark, to name only a few. As Lehman's introduction puts it, a new study dealing with masculinity and popular culture will no longer have to answer the question, "Who needs it?" However, such a study might have to consider what it has to contribute to a firmly established field. In this regard, the authors of the collection place a determined emphasis on the importance of the multiple intersections between race, ethnicity, and sexuality in the study of masculinities. And this even carries over into the structuring of the anthology itself. Lehman notes in his introduction that the essays are not grouped into TI - Review of Masculinity: Bodies, Movies, Culture edited by Peter Lehman JO - Film Quarterly DO - 10.1525/fq.2004.57.3.65 DA - 2004-04-01 UR - https://www.deepdyve.com/lp/university-of-california-press/review-of-masculinity-bodies-movies-culture-edited-by-peter-lehman-fBedkTWNfY SP - 65 VL - 57 IS - 3 DP - DeepDyve ER -
