TY - JOUR AU - Xu, Jianrong AB - To explore the production of ceramic sleeves to protect the thermocouple in aluminum electrolysis, a U-shaped NiFe2O4 ceramic tube was produced by slip casting and pressureless sintering. The slurry stability, thermal shock resistance of NiFe2O4 ceramic tube, and temperature measurement performance of assembled thermocouple with NiFe2O4 ceramic tube were investigated in detail. The slurry stability was enhanced for the narrower size distribution and smaller particles of slurry. The highest average thermal shock of 9.2 was obtained for the samples sintered at 1350 °C for 6 h, resulted from the high binding force of the grains and low linear thermal expansion coefficient. Temperature tests showed that the thermocouple assembled with the U-shaped NiFe2O4 ceramic tube was highly responsive and accurate. In addition, its good resistance to thermal shock and corrosion by molten salts make it a potential candidate for industrial temperature measurement applications in an aluminum reduction cell.
