TY - JOUR AU - Dowben, P A AB - The molecular orbitals of -biphenyl--dimethyldithiol (HSCH2C6H4C6H4CH2SH) are identified from combined photoemission and inverse photoemission studies andcompared with theory for several different surfaces, molecular conformations and molecularorientations. The preferential molecular orientations of biphenyldimethyldithiol, on bothAu(111) and polycrystalline Co, are identified from polarization resolved photoemissionstudies. Two different molecular orientations are adopted by biphenyldimethyldithiol ongold depending on adsorption conditions. Biphenyldimethyldithiol is observed to bondmore strongly to cobalt than gold surfaces.
