AB - Book Reviews in any way with the dynamics of the Japanese crisis. Finally, a clear study of the Japanese banking crisis is proposed in international com- parison: the Japanese case is not exceptional in itself, except concern- ing its duration, which may be explained by the hesitations of the reg- ulatory authorities. This book will interest any reader interested in the financial dimen- sion of the Japanese crisis and in the management of the financial deregulation process. One may have hoped for a better analysis of the interaction between the financial crisis and the real crisis, but this is not the purpose of the book. The same applies to the interaction with inter- national finance mechanisms, which was already analyzed in the previ- ous book. However, the impact of the book is limited by its lack of a general theoretical framework, which may have helped to explain the failed shift from an old financial system dedicated to the financing of growth to a new one, whose main purpose would be to share risks. Nevertheless, these "weak" points of the book are largely over- come by its numerous qualities. Among them, one may point to its clar- ity (the coherent
