TY - JOUR AU - Saffarian, Mohammad AB - One of the air conditioning problems of the buildings in winter is the collected hot air at the top of the room. This will increase energy consumption to warm the buildings. In this research, the effect of using a duct to transfer the hot air from top to bottom of a room is investigated numerically and experimentally. Experimental results are obtained by installing a duct with a height of 1.5 m, a width and a length of 0.11 m in a cubic room with the dimensions of 2.5 m. This duct has two fans, one at the top and the other at the bottom each with a power of 30 W. Numerical simulations are obtained by solving the equations of continuity, momentum and energy using Ansys Fluent 16. Results indicate that the air conditioning duct has improved energy efficiency coefficient from 0.43 to 1.05. It was also observed that the presence of the duct significantly uniformed the room temperature.
