TY - JOUR AU - Xie, Wengang AB - In order to meet the requirements of high operating life due to the frequent breaking of load current in the flexible DC power distribution system, and solve the problems of poor reliability of the fault self-clearing function with the converter and the high cost and large size adopting the DC circuit breaker scheme directly, this paper proposes a scheme of DC load switch based on coupled negative voltage principle. Firstly, its topology and working principle are introduced, and then the fast mechanical switch in the main branch based on double-acting structure and electromagnetic repulsion mechanism, the converter unit based on the coupled negative voltage device and the power electronic valve unit adopting anti-series topology, are designed respectively. Finally, according to the engineering requirements of the Pangdong central converter station in Wujiang district, Suzhou, a 10kV DC load switch prototype based on the coupled negative voltage principle is developed and verified by tests. The results show that the developed 10kV DC load switch can frequently break the rated current and the maximum breaking current within 3ms, the volume is the smallest with the same parameters in China, and it has the advantages of low loss, high mechanical life and high reliability. It fully satisfies the engineering requirements and provides a reference for the development of subsequent DC load switch products.
