TY - JOUR AU - Leonard, Fred AB - Abstract UNDER combat or mass casualty situations, vascular anastomosis is desired to be accomplished as rapidly as possible. Presently used suture techniques for end-to-end anastomosis are comparatively slow. Mechanical stapling techniques, although more rapid, require adequate space to insert the stapling device. Because of the limitations in these techniques, it was decided to attempt end-to-end anastomosis using a combination of suture and adhesive technique, using the α-alkyl-cyanoacrylate tissue adhesive monomers. Materials and Methods Thirty adult mongrel dogs weighing between 15 to 36 kg were used. All dogs were fed a normal laboratory diet and given water freely. The principles of laboratory animal care as promulgated by the National Society for Medical Research were observed. All operations were carried out under sterile conditions with the dogs under anesthesia induced by sodium pentobarbital administered intravenously under sterile conditions. N-butyl, isobutyl cyanoacrylate monomers, and the mixture of 95% heptyl and 5% methyl cyanoacrylate References 1.
