TY - JOUR AU - Strand, Donald R. AB - The members comprising the Los Angeles Tall Buildings Structural Design Council are very active in activities relating to the design of tall buildings. The firms evolved from designing buildings of more moderate height during the 1960s to modern, tall, high‐rise buildings, which are now more easily designed with advanced computer systems and procedures. In these present procedures there is now more ‘paper’ developed in analysis and in construction administration, and requires a more hands‐on approach in a project. The authors in this special issue therefore are presenting information as to how they started, how they handle day‐to‐day projects and responsibilities, and where they think structural engineering design is headed.
