TY - JOUR AU - AB - Social innovation and social management are concepts, which still lacks conceptual definitions. However, both seems to converge, in their own nature, to a common point: the quest for social development with participative means. In this context, the present article sought to reveal the convergences and divergences between both theories, in order to provide some indicators to contribute, together, with social practices. In order to do so, we drunk, essentially, the literature of social management and social innovation, presenting and discussing their main features and confronting them. It is, therefore, an article oriented methodologically to a theoretical revision. Among the main convergences, we found that both theories are grounded towards participation, empowerment, well-being, autonomy of the actors, and a satisfaction of social needs not met by the State, nor by the market. However, we also found some divergences, the concern about participatory research procedures and the comprehensiveness of the works. Thus, this article presents some indicators about the context in which these theories acquire robustness, giving subsidies to better understanding them and for the exchange of experiences and knowledge.
