The device is not intended to carry out the first gross decontamination of either lubricating or cutting oil, and the efficiency is said to commence where other systems finish. After full advantage has been taken of other means of cleansing, the passage of cutting oil through the Philips Magnetic Oil Filter has, it is stated, shown that considerable quantities of magnetic contamination can still be successfully trapped. Impurities of the order of 0.0004mm. have been withdrawn in substantial quantities by this method. Model No. 7715, which is the smallest size, has a capacity of 120 gallons per hour, and is designed to operate on pressures up to 75 lb. per sq. in., but for most applications installation is suggested on the suction side of the system, as the pump then automatically secures a substantial benefit.
