TY - JOUR AU - YANAGIDA,, Mitsuhiro AB - Abstract The structures of paracrystalline arrays in the cell membranes of yeast strains (Kloeckera sp. no. 2201 and Saccharomyces cerevisiae) were studied by conventional freeze-replica method combining with optical diffraction and filtering methods. Optical diffraction patterns showed that the unit cell was approximately identical in both the arrays of the PF and EF faces in Kloeckera sp. no. 2201 and that it had equal cell sides (12 nm) with angle of about 60°. Optically filtered images showed that the repeating unit protruded on the PF surface has a distored rectangular outline. The filtered image of EF arrays was essentially complementary to that of PF arrays. The repeating unit of Kloeckera strain appears to consist of four major subunits, revealing the arc-dot substructure. The structure of the arrays of Saccharomyces cerevisiae was found to be different from that of Kloeckera; its unit cell sides were larger (16 nm) and the repeating unit seems to contain additional component, forming a complex substructure. yeast cell membrane, cell membrane structure, paracrystalline array, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Kloeckera sp This content is only available as a PDF. © Oxford University Press TI - Structure of Paracrystalline Arrays in the Cell Membrane of Yeasts JF - Journal of Electron Microscopy DO - 10.1093/oxfordjournals.jmicro.a050185 DA - 1979-01-01 UR - https://www.deepdyve.com/lp/oxford-university-press/structure-of-paracrystalline-arrays-in-the-cell-membrane-of-yeasts-bzO0Y16G8N SP - 301 EP - 307 VL - 28 IS - 4 DP - DeepDyve ER -
