Testa of Newer Preparations of Penicillin. In our earlier work (Murnane, 1945, 1946, 1946a, 1947) and in routine treatment of mastitis in dairy herds in this country and overseas, penicillin was used mainly in the form of aqueous solution infusions. As a result of the wider use of penicillin in the treatment of streptococcal mastitis, and also of its longer life as now manufactured, safer and simpler methods of administration have been evolved. The Commonwealth Serum Laboratories gave consideration to the production of a suspension of penicillin in oil dispensed in pure tin collapsible tubes, of 3 ml. capacity, with tapered nozzles protected by screw caps as used by us i l l 1938 for the intramamniary administration of trypaflarine suspended in lanolin.
