AB - Change is just as necessary in education as in other fields. Asalways, its implementation is likely to be resisted by those who feelthreatened. Yet decentralisation, devolution, the national curriculum,the GCSE, are all recent aspects of welcome change in education. Changesin teacher training and pay structures involving greater flexibility areenvisaged and the place of science and technology is at last becomingrightfully acknowledged at the head of the educational table, togetherwith the vital link between education and business. Poised at thethreshold of the 21st century, it is increasingly important that werespond quickly to the demands for change, rejecting anyLuddite heel dragging  the longer the delay in theintroduction of a new technique, the greater is likely to be the socialconsequences when it is finally introduced.
