Introduction The majority of equine bicipital disorders arise following direct trauma to the shoulder often associated with a penetrating wound of the intertubercular bursa or damage to the surrounding humerus (Stashak 1987; Grant et al. 1992). This report describes a case of tendonitis of the biceps bruchii tendon in the horse. The biceps brachii originates on the supraglenoid tubercle of the scapula. Proximally it is solely tendonous and has a bilobed structure as it passes over the most proximal portion of the humerus. The intertubercular (bicipital) bursa lies between the tendon and humerus a t this site. The proximal humerus has 3 tubercles that align with the bilobed structure of the biceps brachii tendon, the greater tubercle on the lateral aspect, the lesser on the medial aspect and the intermediate adjacent to the centre of the tendon (Getty 1975). The distal two thirds of the biceps bruchii is predominantly muscular. The biceps bruchii tendon continues distally through the muscle and divides into TI - Tendonitis of the biceps brachii and intertubercular (bicipital) bursitis in a Thoroughbred racehorse JF - Equine Veterinary Education DO - 10.1111/j.2042-3292.1999.tb00922.x DA - 1999-04-01 UR - https://www.deepdyve.com/lp/wiley/tendonitis-of-the-biceps-brachii-and-intertubercular-bicipital-YdAPu6OzK4 SP - 60 VL - 11 IS - 2 DP - DeepDyve ER -
