TY - JOUR AU - Pace, Jean-François AB - According to ERSO, traffic accidents are the leading cause of death in minors aged 0 to 14 in Europe. This group includes 42% of all minors killed in accidents who were travelling as passengers and were not using neither the appropriate child restraint system (CRS) nor even a seat belt. The study consisted of an online questionnaire (proportionally distributed by Autonomous Communities according to the number of inhabitants) and an observation study (Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville and Vizcaya) to respectively 605 and 411 drivers of cars and vans taking children aged 0 to 12 years to school or nearby areas. 3% to 7% of those surveyed travelled without putting their children in a child restraint system. This percentage more often corresponds to men, aged under 30 or over 50 years, driving short distances, who transport children with low frequency, who do not even have a CRS, and if they do have one, they believe that using a seat belt is sufficient.
